Dr. Aaron "Ronnie" Chatterji is OpenAI's first Chief Economist and the Mark Burgess and Lisa Benson-Burgess Distinguished Professor of Business and Public Policy at Duke University. His career spans academia, government, and industry, giving him a grounding in how economic forces play out in the real world, not just in theory.
He served as White House CHIPS Coordinator, overseeing the $52 billion CHIPS and Science Act, and as Acting Deputy Director of the National Economic Council under the Biden Administration. Before that, he was Chief Economist at the U.S. Department of Commerce and a Senior Economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President Obama.
Ronnie brings that same rigorous, policy-informed thinking to questions about AI's economic impact today, including how businesses measure ROI, where productivity gains are real, and what the data actually shows.
